"First I would like to thank The Abby Lou Foundation and their Staff for all of their time, love and support they've given to Michael. Prior to coming into this program Michael was on the State waiting list for services for 14 years. We were told in order to be in a program in St. George (where we live) Michael had to move to an ICF/group facility for approximately 2 years and, unfortunately they only reside up north. It was very difficult moving him far away from home and from his family. But we did what we had to do in order to get him back down here and into a program. We looked at different types of programs without much success before we found The Abby Lou Foundation. Through our association with Abby Lou, we feel like we are finally home. Michael is with a family that treats him as part of their family. He has flourished and has grown by leaps and bounds. He receives respect, attention, and most importantly, love. He has made wonderful friends and is the happiest I have seen him in a very long time. Thank you Abby Lou Foundation for all you do.
Respectfully,
Kim - Michael's Mother."
Success Stories
"T was 42 when she was taken in to the home of Abby Lou’s founders.
Orphaned at 13 and disowned by her grandmother at 18 for troubling and illegal behavior, she was placed in several different provider’s homes in Utah. She continued to live a life of dangerous behavior and, ultimately became Abby Lou’s first client because no other provider would continue to serve her. You see, up until this point, no one had ever looked at her as a person. She was a paycheck that, unfortunately, increased commensurate with the level of difficulty she caused the provider. There was no incentive for her to improve because the worse she was, the more money her providers received. The system continued to use her for her money but never addressed her issues."
Success Stories
"Through Abby Lou she was offered a home where she was accepted for the person she could become. We established high expectations and set healthy boundaries. For the first time in her life she became a person with needs, feelings, and emotions that were fed with kindness and acceptance. She experienced what it was like to receive healthy support through her ups and downs. We are happy to report that after almost 3 years she has learned how to trust and has a wonderful Host mom that loves her, and they look out for each other. She has not had a reportable incident in over a year and has had consistent employment since. Perhaps the best news of all is that she is unrecognizable to her old providers and support coordinators. She works full-time in retail and has established some financial independence for herself. Until Abby Lou came along, no one ever took the time or the manpower to discover who she really was. To them, she was just a client and a paycheck. She is so much more than either of those things and we are delighted to have her as part of the Abby Lou family."
